“Waterman,” a documentary film that explores the life of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, has received a News and Docs Emmy nomination for Outstanding Historical Documentary.

Several fundraising events for Maui wildfire victims and survivors will take place in September on Maui, Oʻahu and the mainland.

The second Maui Ola concert will feature local favorite band, The Green, who will perform live on Sept. 3, 2023, at the Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell. The band will offer free live streaming of their performance on mele.com from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners will lead a statewide, one-day vigil on Friday, Sept. 1, to aid the emotional and spiritual healing of those on Maui who suffered devastating loss from wildfires that swept through Lahaina and other areas of the island. “There’s an urgent need for prayer, cleansing, and reflection so that together, we can help Maui and Hawai‘i heal,” Holt-Padilla said. “This vigil will help to create a space for grief and healing and the opportunity for Hawai‘i to be united.”

Maui’s Ocean Organic Vodka and Southern Rounds TV present a music event to support the Maui community. The Talk Story Nights event offers healing through music, food and friends at a private intimate gathering to support the Maui community. Nashville artists along with Hawaiʻi musicians perform this Tuesday Aug. 29 and Wednesday Aug. 30 from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Ocean Organic Farm & Distillery in Kula, Maui.

Several entertainment fundraisers on Maui, Oʻahu, California and Washington are scheduled this weekend and into September to benefit Maui wildfire victims, including a Maui Jazz and Blues Festival and country western concert, both in Kula.

Scores of artists rally to create three fundraising jazz, blues and Hawaiian concerts for Maui wildfire victims. Also this week on Maui, critically acclaimed guitarist-singer Makana performs a free concert, and David Grace Jr. sings his classic soul and country songs — one of them with more than 690,000 views. In the 24 hours since the broadcast of  “Maui Ola: A Benefit Concert for Maui,” donation portals, including Maui United Way, Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, Hawaiʻi People’s Fund and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, received nearly $1M in donations toward Maui aid.

Three fundraisers are being held on Maui on Saturday and several more are scheduled in the near future — including benefit concerts on Oʻahu and in Tacoma, Wash. — to benefit people affected by the Maui wildfires.

Ebb & Flow Arts presents Duo Diorama – Minghuan Xu, violin, and Winston Choi, piano – in a concert at Keawalaʻi Congregational church in Mākena on Saturday, Aug. 19, with donations raised to support Maui disaster relief. Organizers say all donations to this free event will go to the Maui Food Bank.

Azeka Shopping Center and Nalu’s South Shore Grill will host the Lahaina Keiki Relief Fund Concert this Saturday, Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. at Nalu’s South Shore Grill at Azeka Shopping Center Makai.  A non-stop lineup of musical guests will perform at this community event to garner funds for keiki on Maui displaced by the Lahaina wildfires. Hawaiian music featuring Sista […]

Wiwoʻole in native Hawaiian means ‘fearless, brave, bold, and courageous.’ In this historic occurrence of unprecedented and catastrophic loss, the unifying and healing power of mele (music) has summoned Maui’s celebrated recording artists and hālau to gather for the Wiwoʻole Maui Benefit Concert (Livestream) on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023 live-streamed from Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort.

The 16th Annual Kū Mai Ka Hula, Maui’s only adult hula competition, takes place live at the the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Sept. 8-9, 2023. Tickets go on sale Aug. 8.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents Henry Kapono & the Songs of C&K, featuring Henry Kapono and fellow musicians in a 50th anniversary salute to the music of Cecilio & Kapono. The performance is outdoors under the stars in the MACC’s A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 pm.

Hālau Kekuaokalāʻauʻalaʻiliahi, of Wailuku, Maui, won the Overall Kaikamahine (girls) division in the first Queen Liliʻuokalani Keiki Hula competition held since the onset of COVID.
